It is a non-profit grassroots organization that is membership based and supported through a dues system. It began in Beacon Hill 15 years ago and now there are now over 60 in California alone. They provide information as well as help with small everyday tasks. There are around 50 members in Santa Cruz There are book clubs, painting clubs and sometimes just go to the movies in addition to educational events. Tech support is even available!
Phase II is beginning now to take on some member plus members who just need help. Transportation is a big need.  There are scholarships available for people who cannot afford membership. Villages within villages are now being created so that people can support each other where they already live.
They are recruiting volunteers to help older people with small tasks. They are supported by the Volunteer Center and Community Foundation and PAMF.
