John Fisher mentioned the district wants each member to donate $30 to Polio Plus again in June and it will be matched as before.

Sign up for the Fourth of July celebration to help out at the Rotary beer and wine booth at Aptos Park.  Tim and Kyle will be assigning time slots. The event goes from 10-5 so your participation would be during that time period.

Story

Melissa Rempfer was our speaker today. She spoke on the topic.  “Lead with the vision and the money will follow”. She has created two very successful businesses helping non-profits and others raise money for their work.

She said one of the biggest mistakes people make is to not ask for what they want and what they need. Another mistake is when there is an opportunity before us and we don’t take advantage because we are aware of possible costs.

She spoke about the importance of leading with the mission. Three magic keys to getting people to say yes are:

(1)  IS THERE FOOD?

(2)  IS THERE PLAY?

(3)  IS IT EXCITING?

She said if you have two out of three, you have the elements of success (she mentioned alcohol is good too).  She said Rotarians need to go out and tell people, “Hey we’re doing this! Come and be a part of it!”

She said we need to put on our website calendar things that involve:

a.     Joint venture partnership events e.g. Is our interact club promoting our fourth of July event? And the multiplicative nature of using social media

b.    Holidays e.g. Tie in a fundraiser with a holiday

c.     Annual events e.g. List those on the site well ahead of time

d.    Dining for Dough e.g. Every single month we all eat one day at one location and share the profits

e.     Matching funds e.g. American Cancer Society and Starbucks.

She said speakers should promote for us. Everybody who comes through here should have information on our Website and Facebook page and share on that page. We should collect their email addresses and invite them to our events.

She concluded by saying that the simple magic phrase that can double your money is telling people the reason why you joined. There are nine reasons among them: looking for business or mover and shakers in the community or looking for a good cause. Speak from your heart and be honest. Whatever your “why”  is makes the  heart to heart connection.
