The Aptos Chamber dinner honoring our own Doug Deaver as man of the year will be Oct 27th at Aptos Seascape.
Eric reminded us about the joint shoe project with Catalina Rotary where shoes that ‘grow’ go to kids in Mexico. Let Eric know if you’re interested and wish to contribute.
Art reported back from Seattle for World Polio Day. This year only 12 cases of polio in the world remain.The Campaign has prevented 16 million children from being crippled. Pakistan and Afghanistan remain target areas.
Aptos and Soquel Interact are doing a beach cleanup on Nov 18th.We are strongly invited.
Doug announced that Scotts Valley Rotary is putting together a fundraiser for Leo’s Haven (a Johnny Cash tribute band) Friday Dec 1st.
 
The Jewel Theater artistic director Julie James spoke (and sang!) to us today. Founded in 2005 as a non-profit, the theater is located at the River Street Salz Tannery Arts Center. They are now the resident theater company at Colligan Theater where they opened in 2015.  
 
 
The plays use actors equity association players in many roles. They do 5 shows a year. They began this year with an Arthur Miller play. Their next show is Always Patsy Kline (on now). The set is shaped like a guitar and the play includes her songs.
   Their third play of the season will be Silent Sky about a woman who was an astronomer.  The fourth play will be a Kate Holly play directed by Paul Whitworth as a world premier. They will close the season this year with Neil Simon’s Odd Couple.
