The theme for this year’s district conference is Celebrate the Past: Create the Future. It is June 1-3 at San Jose State University. You can register online at events.rotarydistrict5170.org.
 
The club received an application from Victoria Lewis of Cabrillo College to join the club. Her application was approved by the board. If there are comments on the application let Doug Deaver know.
 
If you wish to be a pollworker for the June elections and donate your fee as part of our fundraising efforts, applications are available here or call (831) 454-2060.
 
Watsonville Rotary is holding a Maine Lobster Feast on Saturday June 9 2018. Tickets are $100.00. The event will be held at 5:30 at the Harvest Building on the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds.
 
Dr. Art Dover was named Medical Hero by the American Red Cross! If you are interested in attending his awards breakfast at Twin Lakes on June 15th let Al know
 
         Today we had the pleasure of hearing violinist Rebecca Jackson. She is a founding member of Music in May (see below) . She has performed in many marginalized communities around the world, including refugee camps. She is co-founder of Sound Impact and a graduate of Julliard and UCSC.

         Ms. Jackson spoke about the joy of giving back thru music. She showed us a film about Music in May which emphasized its goals and philosophy, which includes outreach to the youth in the community.
         She played a moving snippet of a piece written especially for her by a friend in Russia and in memory of her mentor, David Arben.
Cabrillo College’s 11th annual Music in May. It is Saturday May 26th and Sunday the 27th at Samper Recital Hall on campus. For more details see www.musicinmay.org.
