Dagmar announced Sept 21st will be our next beach clean-up at Rio del Mar beach. We did a great job last time picking up 25 lbs of trash which included a large amount of microplastics.
Congratulations to Pam Goodman and Matt Wetstein who won Aptos Chamber of Commerce woman and man of the year. The dinner to honor them will be Oct 25th. Tickets will be $85 or $105 for the Rotary Table . See Doug to sign up.

Rachel Goodman was our speaker today. She spoke about community public radio. KSQD 90.7 is the new station she has helped to establish in here. Their motto is ‘many voices one station’.

Ms Goodman gave us a bit of the history of the new station. The goal was to establish an electronic town hall, to be locally owned by a nonprofit.  They raised $300,000 and bought the frequency and the transmitter and some of the old equipment from KUSP. Volunteers helped with building and furnishing the studio.
She also asked how can she help us. They have a show called “Good News: Santa Cruz” for all the great stuff that’s happening and the focus is on community service.  To do a public service announcement go to PSA@kqsd.org
They have many different shows including all types of music such as jazz classical opera and Hawaiian music. They have natural resources programs  that includes birdwatching. They do interviews on the street using Cabrillo students. They also train junior high and high school students in doing radio, and Cabrillo College students do “man on the street” interviews.
If you have an interesting story to tell and wish to be Interviewed go to info@ksqd.org They are completely listener supported so if you wish to assist financially on Oct 6th at the Resource Center for Nonviolence there will be a fundraising concert. You can also contribute to their website at their website.  www.kqsd.org
