Keith’s annual summer party will be Sunday August 26th at 3:00. There will be games and refreshments. Bring your favorite hors d’oeuvre to share if you wish!
Santa Cruz Sunrise Club has a project to bring water to Uganda and their trip will be in January. If interested let Dr. Art know. He also is a good source of information on all Rotary International projects. These will be e-mailed out as we receive them.
Doug announced that Aptos Chamber of Commerce will be hosting Jimmy Panetta on Tuesday Aug 14th at 11:50 Best Western Seacliff.
Our incoming president Michelle Bassi and our RotaCare MD, Dr. Chandra, are both on the ballot for people of the year. Please vote! The voting deadline is Aug 13th at 5:00 PM and you can vote on a paper ballot or electronically www.aptos chamber.com.
Walnut Ave Women’s Center gave us a sponsorship ticket for their fundraising lunch on Sunday Aug 12th. Let Pam or Michelle know if you wish to go.

Keisha Frost, the Chief Executive Officer from United Way was our speaker for the day. She is a University of Washington graduate who qualified for the 1996 Olympics! She came here in 2012 and was promoted to CEO of United Way this year.
She gave us a bit of the history of United Way. It started in Watsonville in 1941 to improve people’s quality of life. 1988 was when they began to offer after school programs (boys and girls clubs and girl scouts for instance). They are now looking at youth success. They want to know how programs are doing that serve youth, examining what is termed “collective impact”.
Currently they have a campaign to buy backpacks full of school supplies for a donation of $25. Next Saturday they will stuff the bus with these and deliver them to the 3200 youth who are homeless in our area. For more information on this or other United Way programs go to www.unitedwaysc.org.
